Understanding the Major Types of Renewable Energy

There are six different types of renewable energy technology today. Three of these types of technologies are geothermal, solar power and hydroelectricity. Each of these types of technology has its strengths and weaknesses. As you read this article, you will begin to understand each of these types of renewable energy technology.

The first type of renewable power technology we’ll discuss is the use of moving water. This can be generated through geothermal, solar and hydropower systems. Moving water can be stored in deep wells, deep geysers or even in tidal pools. The advantage to moving water is that it can be accessed on a minute-to-minute basis. However, moving water is difficult to convert into electricity as it must pass through many natural barriers and it takes a long period of time before it reaches the turbine for it to become usable.

The second type of renewable sources is coal. Coal is used to generate electricity as it is rich in thermal energy. However, there are some serious environmental problems associated with the burning of fossil fuels. The earth receives huge amounts of carbon dioxide and methane each time that coal is burned. The burning of fossil fuels also damages the ozone layer and contributes to global warming. For these reasons, many countries around the world are trying to find other sources of energy such as the burning of biomass such as bamboo.

The third type of renewable sources is hydroelectricity. Hydroelectric power can be generated from three major sources. These are ocean currents, precipitation runoff and flowing rivers. These types of renewable energy sources can be found almost anywhere on the planet.

The fourth and final most common form of renewable power is wind power. Wind power is used to generate electricity by using turbines which catch the wind and turn it into usable electricity. While this is the easiest form of renewable energy sources, it does not produce the lowest carbon emissions or the least amount of pollution.

The fifth and sixth most common forms of renewable electricity are solar power and hydrogen. Solar power can be used to generate electricity by using photovoltaic cells. This process is known as the photoelectric effect. On the other hand, hydrogen is created through the process of electrolysis. Hydrogen can then be used to support an engine that runs on gasoline, although it is also found in small quantities in natural gas and other fossil fuels.

Many environmentalists are concerned about the exploitation of natural gas and coal. One of the problems is that these types of fuels are very expensive to extract. Moreover, there is an increasing concern over the damage that these fuels are doing to the environment due to their use as fuel for the transportation sector. While many governments have placed a ban on the use of these fossil fuels, there are still many others who rely heavily upon them. Unfortunately, this means that the burning of fossil fuels will continue to pollute the air, water, soil, and the air in large amounts, and this will continue to deteriorate the quality of life.

The development of alternative sources of energy has been slowed due to these two major factors. However, there are many different types of renewable energy that are constantly developing. Some of these sources, such as geothermal energy, ocean wave power, tidal power, and solar and wind power, have already been developed and are in wide use. These sources can now be used to replace fossil fuels in many different sectors, including electricity, transportation, manufacturing, and even commercial and residential sectors. However, the fact remains that we still have a long way to go to make these resources readily available for all.
